At DWPS Samba, we believe values are not taught through lectures — they are demonstrated. Every teacher, every administrator and every policy at the school models the values we ask our students to live by.

Values in daily school life

From the way a teacher responds to a struggling student, to the way disputes between peers are resolved, to the way the school communicates with parents — our values shape every interaction.

They are reviewed each year with staff and shared clearly with new families during admissions. They are not aspirational. They are operational.

Integrity is the bedrock of everything at DWPS. We teach our students that honesty is not situational — it is a habit of character. Whether in an examination hall, on the sports field or in an everyday conversation, we expect truthfulness and transparency.

In the classroom, this means students are encouraged to acknowledge when they do not understand, rather than pretend. In assessments, it means work is always their own. In life, it means they grow up to be people others can trust.

Resilience

We live in a world that will challenge every child. DWPS prepares students not just for exams, but for life — and life requires resilience. We teach our students that setbacks are not failures. They are data. They tell us where to grow.

Teachers at DWPS are trained to reframe difficulty as opportunity. When a student struggles, the response is not disappointment — it is support, strategy and encouragement to try again. Resilience is practised, not preached.

Excellence

At DWPS, excellence is not the privilege of the academically gifted. It is available to every student — on the stage, on the pitch, in the science lab and in the art room. Excellence means giving your best to whatever you are doing.

We guard against the culture of comparison. Our students are encouraged to compete with their previous selves, not with each other. A student who improves their essay by one grade has achieved excellence. So has the one who scores 99% in mathematics.

Respect

Respect at DWPS is not about hierarchy — it flows in every direction. Students respect teachers, yes. But teachers equally respect students. Their opinions are sought. Their wellbeing is considered. Their voices are heard.

Respect also extends to the physical environment. Students are taught to care for their campus, for shared resources and for the natural world around them. Respect for people and respect for place are one and the same at DWPS.

Compassion

Compassion is the value that holds all the others together. A school without compassion is merely a factory for qualifications. DWPS aspires to be something greater — a community where every person is seen, valued and supported.

This means our teachers notice when a student is having a difficult day. It means our counsellors are genuinely accessible. It means we celebrate kindness as actively as we celebrate academic achievement. Compassion is taught by example, every single day.
